Vinci i Blonde Redhead con Polkadot
A 3 anni dall’uscita del loro successo “23“, ritornano i noiser Blond Redhead. La band newyorkese di adozione, ma dal sangue italo giapponese, sta ultimando le registrazioni del nuovo disco “Penny Sparkle” in uscita ufficiale il prossimo 13 Settembre. La cantante Kazu Makino ha dichiarato che si tratta di un lavoro completamente diverso dagli altri dove ha prevalso l’uso dei sintetizzatori sulle distorsioni noise. Il disco è stato mixato dal celebre Alan Moulder, famoso per aver collaborato con grandi artisti come Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine e Yeah Yeah Yeahs. E’ possibile ascoltare in anteprima il primo singolo “Here Sometimes” sul sito della band http://www.blonde-redhead.com/, e secondo noi promette decisamente bene! Per promuovere il nuovo disco i Blonde Redhead saranno in tour da questo mese, con una data a Milano il prossimo 11 Settembre. Polkadot mette in palio un biglietto per il concerto che si terrà ai Magazzini Generali. Coquet Coquette
Coquet Coquette, that’s the name of the new single from Of Montreal band. A little piece of what will be the new album False Priest (the album number 10 of their career), available from the next 14 th of September.
You can download the song for free here. Some artists from the hip hop scene have taken part to the project: Solange Knowles (sister of the more popular Beyoncè) and the producer Jon Brion. But it doesn’t seem so different from the Of Montreal taste, Coquet Coquette has got the same attitude and indie rock sound that we appreciate a lot from the band. So while we are waiting for the next realese have a look to the strange video of the new piece.

The world champion freediver Guillaume Nery and his colleague Julie Gautier have realised this spectacular video of an underwater jump by using a Canon 5D Mark II! Enjoy it!
Arcade Fire: a special gig on Youtube
In order to promote their new album “The Suburbs” (available from yesterday), Arcade fire are going to play for a special gig at Madison Square Garden of New York, tuesday 5th of August. All the fan around the world will have the opportunity to be there virtually thanks to a live steaming on YouTube! But it’s not enough, a special guest has been invited to direct the gig: the famous and creative director Terry Gilliam (The imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Fear and loathing in Las Vegas). Polkadotters @ Sziget Festival
I nostri coetanei del 1969 corsero a Woodstock spinti da un senso di libertà e ribellione, e con la voglia di esprimersi ballando sulle note del rock’n'roll. Non immaginavano lontanamente quello che avrebbero trovato, la leggenda e la filmografia moderna narrano che fu un tam tam nato dal passaparola e un movimento completamente spontaneo e inaspettato. Si ritrovarono in tanti, tantissimi e con una line up memorabile. Noi del 2010 abbiamo perso la magia dell’incognito ma non la voglia di musica, come dimostrano piccoli e grandi festival che animano le diverse località europee durante la stagione estiva. Nei mesi scorsi c’è stato un passaparola ma di indiscrezioni e rivelazioni sulle diverse line up e alla fine ognuno ha avuto la sua. Noi di Polkadot ce ne andiamo allo Sziget Festival, a scoprire se davvero lì c’è ancora lo spirito di Woodstock che aleggia nell’aria. Ce ne andiamo via da Facebook e dal traffico della città ormai insopportabile. Ce ne andiamo lì dov’è più azzurro il fiume, sulle rive del Danubio, dal 9 al 16 agosto. Finalmente la tendenza degli ultimi anni sembra quella di voler riunire diversi generi e diverse persone in un unico evento , dopo un periodo di separazione netta dove un metallaro, un hypster e un rastone amante del raggae non avrebbero mai convissuto nello stesso posto, ma chi l’aveva stabilito? Ecco, noi ce ne andiamo lontani da certe convenzioni snob (che non abbiamo mai digerito) con un solo obiettivo: una full immersion di buona musica. Partiamo con la voglia di scoprire e sperimentare, abbandonando ogni remora e rievocando lo spirito più hippies sopito dalla vita di città: tenda e zaino in spalla. Di seguito ricordiamo la line up per chi partirà last minute. Per tutti gli altri… vi terremo aggiornati dall’isola di Obuda!

Il ritorno degli Stone Temple Pilots
Lunedì 28 Giugno 2010, Milano: Stone Temple Pilots in cartellone all’Alcatraz. Per i più fortunati è stato un grande ritorno, per alcuni è stata la prima volta. La sottoscritta rientra tra questi ultimi, pur avendoli sempre amati. Gli Stone Temple Pilots, pilastri del grunge ma forse meno grunge degli altri se paragonati ai Soundgarden o ai classici Nirvana, sono anche gli unici ad essere di San Diego (California), lontani dalla cosiddetta scena principale. Eppure è impossibile non citarli nella storia, con il loro stile inconfondibile, un pò sborone perchè più inspirato dal vecchio rock’n'roll, rispetto ai loro colleghi del grunge . Gli Stone Temple Pilots portano con se una dote molto ricca, composta da un album di esordio che irruppe sulle scene con prepotenza colpendo al cuore il grande pubblico, “Core” 1992, un secondo disco che ha rappresentato la summa, “Purple” 1994, e due produzioni postume di tutto rispetto “Tiny Music” 1996 e “NO. 4″ del 1999. In quest’ultimo la band si lascia influenzare da heavy metal e psichedelia, a conferma del fatto che sono sempre stati eclettici. Ma anche loro, come tanti negli anni 90, hanno accompagnato la loro storia di successo a una storia meno felice di droga e malaffare, tanto che il cantante Scott Weiland finì in carcere e poi in comunità. Cosa è rimasto oggi di questa band ? Lunedì scorso all’Alcatraz abbiamo visto uno Scott Wailand in grande forma accompagnato dai fratelli De Leo e dal batterista Eric Kretz sempre generosi nelle loro performance. Un grande revival del passato grazie ai grandi classici come Vasoline, Creep, Lounge Fly, Crackermen, Big Empty, che suonano ancora benissimo e che sono nel dna del gruppo e di noi fan. Con questo tour la band ha presentato anche il nuovo disco omonimo, un disco piacevole ma senza le pretese di vecchi fasti. No alla nostalgia, si a vivere il concerto come se niente si fosse mai rotto, questa è stata la sensazione che Weiland e soci hanno cercato di trasmetterci e ci sono riusciti. Qualcuno si è lamentato della durata del live, 1 ora e 40 circa, trascurabile perchè qualitativamente è stato un live impeccabile e possiamo perdonare sicuramente gli Stone Temple Pilots perchè ci hanno fatto emozionare lo stesso, a dimostrazione che grandi canzoni e grandi band non tramonteranno mai.
Chatting with Giobia @ Mi Ami festival in Milan
Every year, every June, since 2006, there’s a really good festival in Italy, in Milan, all dedicated to Italian independent music. It’s called “Mi Ami” and the promise is ” the festival of good music and kisses”. We chose some great artists from the line up and we are proud to introduce their music with a short interview and a track available on streaming, Underground they chose! Have a good listen!

Polkadotter: They define your music as garage rock, psychedelia, 60s,… but now we want a definition of Giobia by Giobia.
Stefano/Giobia: We’re a group of people who simply love to play and create music evolving continuously by mixing different genres and incorporating many influences. Our latest album Hard Stories has a garage-rock sound, but in the past we’ve explored other sounds, though always devout to psychedelia.
Chatting with Annie Hall @ Mi Ami Festival 2010
Usually we talk about new bands from England, Usa, Australia, Norway, and the rest of the world, and sometimes we forget there’s an Italian movement at all. It’s not easy for a band in our country to grow up in the music system, the mainstream and pop music have a lot of influence on the radio, music tv (Mtv and others) and newspapers. Mi Ami Festival 2010 took place two weeks ago, a lot of people came to Circolo Magnolia club for three days of music with an excellent line up. We chose some great artists from the line up and we are proud to introduce their music with a short interview and a track available on streaming. ANNIE HALL (Brescia /Milan)
After the gig we met Fabio Dondelli, the singer and songwriter of the band.
Polkadotter: It’s the second time for Annie Hall at Mi Ami Festival, the first one was in 2008, what has changed since the last time? in terms of feelings on stage, emotions, fears, fans!
Fabio / Annie Hall: The first time at Mi Ami festival we were more scared but at the same time we came from a lot of gigs to promote our first album (Cloud Choocko Land) and we were hot on the stage. The second album “Carousel“, is available now but we’ve been playing a bit less. It has been a good gig tonight, on an intimate stage, perfect for our sound, that usually is considered acoustic and sweet, but the Annie Hall band has got a double face also with a more rock attitude when we can play the electric set, just has you’ve seen earlier.
Polkadotter: What about the evolution from your first album to your second one, if it did occurr?
Fabio / Annie Hall: Carousel is a completely home-made album and it is exactly what we wanted to realize, it is an important step of the band but we are currently working on a new project, whose aim is to improve the notoriety of the band. It will be something new, thanks to a high quality production and we would finalize it as soon as possible and we hope to catch a lot of new fans also!
Peter Pan RIP, Kula Shaker said!
The new video from the brit pop and psychedelic band Kula Shaker. They are coming back with a new album “Pilgrim’s progress“, available from the 28th of June. Kula Shaker were popular during the nineties thanks to a very beautiful album “K“, full of contaminations and atmospheres from the last sixties. They were the intellectual of british pop. After the end of the rest in 2007, when they produced Strangefolk, is it now a new deal? Their first single, Peter Pan RIP, is a very nice song: a delicious string quartet is the leitmotiv all over the piece, sweet and romantic supported by a good video especially in terms of photography! Electrovenice Festival – vinci 2 biglietti !
Ci eravamo chiesti che fine avessero fatto tutti, poche date in cartellone durante l’inverno nei club milanesi, o in giro per lo stivale. E invece ce li ritroviamo tutti qui riuniti per l’Electrovenice Festival al Parco San Giuliano di Mestre, che a quanto pare si sta confermando una location di successo. Questa volta non manca veramente nessuno, dall’electro francese dei 2 Many Dj’s e Mr Oizo, al sound nostrano dei Bloody Beetroots, all’eleganza di Moderat, progetto berlinese nato dall’incontro di due artisti, Modeselektor e Apparat, facenti parte della scuderia tedesca della BPitch Control di Ellen Allien, anche lei presente of course. E ancora Richie Hawtin, i Digitalism, Steve Aoki, Kap Bambino… Il meglio della produzione electro-techno mondiale accenderà i due palchi del festival per ballare dal tramonto all’alba, e chi si ferma è perduto.
