Vanmoof n°5

vm5

We already wrote about Vanmoof, the Dutch bike with its unique design. Now they are out with a new model which responds to a special need: in the city a strong chain lock is a must. But chaining it up is time consuming and storing it during the ride is even a bigger hassle. VANMOOF N°5 is the answer. The high quality chain lock is integrated in the frame. You simply pull it out, wrap it around a pole and turn the key in your frame. Your bike is stored safe and sound. When you are ready to ride again you simply place it back in your frame. Easy, safe and city-proof!

VANMOOF N°5 has a striking aluminum rust-free frame with a highly advanced solar powered LED light system built inside its tubes. The lights have two settings: steady mode and flashing mode. The indestructible bulbs are also used for airport landing strips, they are strong. No more loose hanging cables! No more rusty dynamo’s dangling in your spokes! No more lights stolen off your bike! The secret is in what´s NOT there.

Let it ride, ride, ride

Steven from San Francisco and Peteris from Latvia rode their bikes from Stockholm, Sweden to Barcelona, Spain in 2009. About 2700 miles fixed gear.

We are against pessimism and recession. We are about mustaches, fixed gear bikes, and great ideas. We are going to heavily document our adventure, and hope to inspire others to pursue their passions.

Archival Clothing

Archival Clothing bags are made of stout, closely woven waxed cotton and military-grade cotton webbing. All edges are bound in waxed cotton tape and all stress points are bar-tacked. Solid brass hardware is used throughout. Handsewn in Oregon, these bags are practical and free of complications.

Musettes were originally designed as feed bags for cyclists during road races. The Flap Musette is designed to combine the simplicity of the cycling musette with the durability and use value of a field bag. Slightly bigger than our standard Musette, it has a snapped flap closure, adjustable strap, double-layer bottom, and two inside pockets. The strap adjusts from 41 to 52 inches, accommodating most users. Their first fifty special-edition musettes are hand-numbered on the leather tab.

Strida

The sleek form and clever functionality of British designer Mark Sanders’ foldable bike Strida have been earning accolades in Europe for over a decade. Inside a triangular frame of lightweight aluminum, power is transferred to the rear wheel via a silent clean Kevlar belt. Handlebars are mounted horizontally so the rider can sit comfortably upright with an excellent view of the road. The genius of the triangular frame is that it can quickly fold. In five seconds, you have a light, compact form that you can easily wheel, stow in a closet, load in your car or take on the train.

What sets the Strida 5.0 apart from other collapsables is its tripod-like frame which folds easily into parallel tubes. Unfolded, the tubes form a triangle – handlebars and wheels occupy the three points and the adjustable seat slides along one side. The unique, patented frame streamlines the design and makes fold-up quick and easy – Strida boasts a six second shift from expanded bike to folded traffic-averting accessory. With Strida instead of being stuck in traffic you can ride where you want, and then fold your bike up and take it with you. On sale at SuperFly Deluxe.

velo-re

velo-re is a company that started out as a dream, and is proof positive that the simplest of ideas can turn into a profitable enterprise, even in harsher economic times.. The guys @velo-re make belts from recycled bicycle tyres. Each one is individual, and handmade in Brixton (London) or Bern (Switzerland). Discover the idea from the words of the 2 creators, Christian Baumgartner and Bettina Galizzi.

These days, with more clothes and fashions available than ever before, I set out to create a clothing item that was unique and individual while indulging in 2 passions of mine – bicycling and finding solutions to environmental problems. I have always been extremely passionate about sport and filtered that passion into work as a cycle instructor in London, helping others navigate London’s much-improved cycling possibilities. Additionally, I originate from Switzerland, where we are keenly aware of how important it is to keep our environment and beautiful landscape as preserved as possible.  This sometimes means I find it difficult to throw things away; I love the idea of making something useless  useful.
