Swedishness is run by Nina and Mathias Strömberg. Nina started and ran legendary fashion shop NEU in Stockholm, mixing the best of Swedish high fashion with european avant-garde. Mathias is an art director with several large fashion, interior and food magazines on the cv. Their online shop is filled with Swedish design + quality souvenirs.
We have mixed a handful of Swedish brands with small handicraft shops and new talent, and have built our shop to live up to the high standards these producers demand Swedishness will hopefully evoke the same feelings you get when you enter a quality physical shop. You want to look around and get filled with ideas, and discover things you never knew you wanted. Our blog is all about Swedish design and creates added bookmarking value. We want our customers to return not only with a shopping mission, but also to read and get inspired.

Serie Stoccolma by Note Design Studio
Note Design Studio has designed a unique Stockholm line for the stylish Italian bicycle manufacture Abici, where the colors from four different iconic buildings in Stockholm have inspired the colors of the bicycles. There is a yellow, a red-orange, a white and a blue, — can you guess the buildings that inspired them?

Shoe the bear
The latest Shoe the Bear collection, the Spring Summer 2010, is inspired by the dusty landscapes of Mexico, where sand roads, old cars and worn out denim are translated into urban shoe design with irony and charisma.At each new collection Shoe The Bear finds a new collaboration partner with whom they develop a line of unique art sneakers. For the SS10 collection the collaboration is with the Iranian artist Saeed Fadavi. Fadavi fled from Iran to Denmark at the age of 24, and has since then used his painting as a form of escapism from the old Iranian regime. The collaboration styles are all influenced by hand painted women and shows Fadavi’s skills and the design by Shoe The Bear perfectly.

AIAIAI Pipe earphone in two new colors
The guys @ Aiaiai introduce a new approach to the upcoming releases of their Pipe earphones. They are gonna create 2-3 new colours of pipes every third month. The colours are inspired by things/objects or the like that have had some kind of inpact on AIAIAI crew throughout the years. The first one is inspired by the legendary Nike Air Trainer 1 tennis shoe that we’ve all – including John McEnroe – played in back in the days. It came out in 1987 as a cross trainer shoe project, but soon became a hit as a tennis shoe and it was even used in the NBA at one point. The idea and colourway has been re-launched several times, but nothing really matches the good old original one.
The second vesion of the new pipes is inspired by the one an only beer – Gold Tuborg! Also known as “the golden lady” the beer hit the danish market in 1895 and was actually meant for export markets. Instead it quickly became only a national product for the Danes – and they/we loved it.
At the old A-house, where we/AIAIAI used to have our club, we served the gold beer instead of regular pilsner and we even served it in a can (as the one you see on the picture). People loved it and soon Tuborg realized that this beer had been down-prioritized way too much through out the years. The second year of our clubs existence, we had Tuborg convinced to make us customized Gold Tuborg vending machines, which became a great success. Today these vending machines are spread all over town as an alternative to line up in the bar.
Vanmoof n°5
We already wrote about Vanmoof, the Dutch bike with its unique design. Now they are out with a new model which responds to a special need: in the city a strong chain lock is a must. But chaining it up is time consuming and storing it during the ride is even a bigger hassle. VANMOOF N°5 is the answer. The high quality chain lock is integrated in the frame. You simply pull it out, wrap it around a pole and turn the key in your frame. Your bike is stored safe and sound. When you are ready to ride again you simply place it back in your frame. Easy, safe and city-proof!

Cubelight
“Making the switch from the energywasting lightbulb to new energysaving lightsources has been a tough journey. As designers many of us has started drawing lamps hiding the the new lightsources that in generel are seen as ugly compared to the old lightbulb. In the Cubelight we wanted to do the opposite, show the lightsource, embrace it and give it a positive context. The solid wood reflector gives it that surrounding. The warm tone of the reflected light from the wood gives one of the missing pieces of the puzzle when using low-energy lightsources”.
Materials: Powder coated metal legs and solid ash wood. A project by Fagerström & Abrahamsson.
