lotta

With the emergence of lotta, iida has once again achieved a mobile phone with simultaneously natural and supple stylistic sense. Iwasaki Ichiro, the designer of iida’s first product, G9, has imparted to lotta a sense of purpose you don’t see in mobile phones anymore. A sense of balance—elegance and casualness, strength and flexibility, simplicity and graciousness—is important.
The mobile phone’s very essence lies in balance between these qualities, which creates a sense of individuality that goes straight to the heart. lotta’s sensibility is expressed in such details. It sits firmly in your hand and casts a delicate, trapezoidal silhouette. A two-tone contrast plays on its bright surface and features a matte finish and polished texture.
The Tyrant Clock by Alice Wang

The Tyrant Clock, designed by Alice Wang has to be the meanest alarm clock concept ever invented. Some alarm clocks make a terribly annoying noise or require you to complete a physical task to shut them off. There’s even some now that will shake your bed until you’re up. Not the Tyrant Clock. This clock takes waking up into pure psychological warfare territory. You’re not going to hear many alarm clocks called pure diabolical evil but there you go, you just did.
The clock syncs up with your cell phone, randomly goes through your contact list, and then calls someone different every three minutes after your intended wake up time. It displays in a large size the name of the person who’s about to get their own wake up call from you. The potential for it to call someone and in some way completely ruin your life is huge. A disaster waiting to happen, which would make it the ideal alarm clock. Don’t want your boss, mom, or mistress awoken at some ungodly hour? Then get your butt out of bed and turn the Tyrant off. | Via

Ceramic speakers by Joey Roth

When design meets technology: Joey Roth was inspired to design the Ceramic Speakers by the harmonious contrast between electronic components and simple materials. Most speaker systems are made from injection-molded plastics or metals that look sleek and futuristic, but do not convey the warmth and human feeling of good music. Since speakers must give music a physical form as well as make it sound good, he chose acoustically dead materials that are naturally beautiful, but don’t draw too much attention.
The Ceramic Speakers are made from materials more associated with sculpture than electronics, and offer a remarkably simple path from source to ear. Their 4″ full-range drivers and Tripath amplifier create a sound that’s warm, dry, and detailed. The Ceramic Speakers will show the difference between lossless and mp3 files, and will unlock vinyl’s richness.
