On Tuesday, August 28, the Chilean arts collective Los Casagrande dropped 100,000 poems from the sky onto the Lustgarten in Berlin to celebrate poetry and condemn acts of war. The action was their contribution to one of Berlin’s most popular cultural events, A Long Night of Museums. | via

Gli Hotel della catena Starwood sono conosciuti in tutto il mondo per la loro architettura e il design d’avanguardia: quello di Barcellona, a forma di vela, ne è un esempio.

In collaborazione con Design Miami/Basel, W Starwood ha organizato un concorso, il Designers of the Future Award, vinto da due studi, Zigelbaum+Coelho e Beta Tank.

Le creazioni dei vincitori sono esposte fino al 16 settembre nell’hotel W di Barcellona. Nel W Bar si trova l’istallazione luminosa “Six-Forty by Four-Eighty” del duo Zigelbaum+Coelho, un’opera interattiva formata da migliaia di pixel luminosi attacati ad una parete metallica tramite forze magnetiche, in un mix di fisico e digitale che offre una soluzione innovativa per il controllo dell’illuminazione d’interni.

I berlinesi Beta Tank hanno invece ideato una serie di mobili que il W Barcellona ha dislocato nella sua Living Room: gli arredi mixano artigianato con produzione industriale. Da vedere!

Lychener Str., mid block just south of Helmholtzplatz hides Signorina Yv.  It’s a mixture of vibes, neither homey nor exclusively posh, resting comfortably in between the Standard Hotel and your typical Parisian bar.  An elderly couple enjoy the rare sunshine, sunglasses on, still chic.  A young mother looks after her son, her demeanor is as if with a history in modeling.  An oversized gray sweater accented with a green scarf cycles by.  A light blue suit walks in, the silk peeking out of his coat pocket speaks volumes.  A roll of paper in hand, he takes a seat, a teddybear as his companion on the white bench by the window front.  Touches of red and pink accent the space.  The soft music, the sparkling glasses, wooden furniture, flowers, the smell of freshly ground coffee – all quite disarming; One can spend hours in this little space…say with an Auster or a Fforde? Friends chitchat at the counter, each customer greeted with a smile, and the owner waves to locals strolling by.  Morning croissants are fantastic here with some jam and the coffee??…well the customers keep coming back all day long so INCLUDE YOURSELF!

Stanchi di vedere il Made in Italy bistrattato e contraffatto? Avete in programma un viaggio a New York ma sapete già che prima o poi hamburger e patatine vi verranno a noia? Fast food si, ma dipende quale?

Bene!Ecco quello che fa per voi…

Si chiama Salumè, nome che fa il verso al dialetto milanese (salumè significa appunto salumeria) e che si ispira a Salomè, simbolo storico della sensualità femminile: un angolo di vera tradizione italiana nel cuore di Soho. Un’autentica salumeria, dove il panino viene composto al momento, con prodotti di prima qualità, freschi e appena affettati. L’inconveniente della fretta si sa compromette la qualità e tante volte ci si trova ad addentare un pane molle, ripieno di “cose” poco identificabili, tipo un formaggio impiastrato da un paio di salse, sormontato da una scarsa fettina di crudo (quale tipo di crudo, poi, chi lo sa?). Da Salomè la filosofia è ben diversa: pensate che una delle prime regole della composizione è proprio quella di non pressare le fette, così da rendere distinguibili i sapori dei diversi componenti.

Il locale nasce dallo spirito imprenditoriale di Michele Colombo, che dal mondo dell’advertising milanese ha pensato bene di trasferire il suo genio nella grande mela, diffondendo il rituale del panino fresco, proprio del suo italianissimo dna.

L’attività è giovane ma gli affari sembrano andare a gonfie vele!Come potrebbe essere altrimenti? I prodotti sono italiani doc, testati e selezionati con cura, la varietà dei piatti si articola in tante sfumature, offrendo dalla colazione (cappuccino, cornetto, pane-burro e marmellata…) alla cena. Last but not least il design: avete presente la mitica Vespa? Lei, Alessandra Bettolo, è architetto e designer, nipote del famoso Corradino D’Ascanio, ideatore dello storico ciclomotore.

Divisa per anni tra Italia e Sudafrica, firma il décor si Salumè, che strizza l’occhio alla nostra tradizione più verace, quella del cibo “fatto e mangiato”. Ancora un dettaglio milanese: l’istallazione luminosa che richiama le guglie del Duomo, by Dan Flavin.

From Gare du Nord, train yourself an hour outside of Paris and you’ve got yourself at Compiègne and it’s Château.  I must confess I was actually in search of Château de Pierrefonds but with a helpful hint from fellow train rider Nico, I ended at “the Castle,” namely Château de Compiègne.  Unfortunately since I never made it to Pierrefonds, I’m unable to compare the two, but Château de Compiègne is a fantasy in itself.  It may not have the panache of Versailles, however it’s typical French landscape layout (a central axis disappearing over the hill and the forested horizon with smaller blocks of up-kept gardens on either side of the axis) has a languid elegance in it’s seeming simplicity.  Open to the public, Château gardens hold shirtless youths playing football, couples strolling through the flowers, lovers lounging in the grass, and the town’s population at large enjoying the sunny afternoon with various bottles of chilled white. With the typical Parisian clouds bobbing overhead, you feel as if in a Monet. Definitely worth a worth trip for those in need of a escape from Paris!

Propellerhead recently decided to create a giant, 4×4 light-emitting device so large that you have to literally jump between each of the pads in order to trigger the drum samples. Then they just randomly set up shop outdoors somewhere and hooked everything up to a projector showing the Kong drum synthesizer that it was hooked up to, and hundreds of people just stood there in awe.

Kong is a new instrument added in Reason 5, which by the way, has benn launched on 25th of August. It is a $129 upgrade if you currently own ANY previous version of the program, $349 if you are buying it for the first time, and $449 in combination with Record, which is also getting an update tomorrow. More info here! | via
