Design should have a purpose: Elise Island project

The patients of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the ‘Evangelisches Konigin Elisabeth Krankenhaus’ Hospital (KEH) in Berlin will never feel alone again. In addition to doctors and nurses the youngsters are, since October 2009, hosted by Princess Elise. She is the protagonist of the story told to the children when they arrive at the institution: when she was young, Princess Elise invented her own island, with golden sand, palm trees, rocks that kiss the waves and shelters where she could rest when she needed to. Here she was always safe. Now as a grown-up lady, Elise does no longer need to live on the island and therefore dedicated it to her young patients in the hospital. The legend was created and transferred to reality by the German creative agency dan pearlman, who worked closely with the hospital’s psychiatrists and doctors to develop a holistic approach to a new communication and spatial concept. The ‘Isle of Elise’ project is based on a concept where design and architecture play a central role, thus forming a completely new approach to child and adolescent psychiatry.

Urban fashion FW2010 at Bread & Butter Berlin

DSC05575

The Bread & Butter Berlin (BBB), the most important international exhibition of street & urbanwear, inserted at the Berlin Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2010, between 20 and 23 January, showed the collections of brands such as Pepe Jeans, Fornarina, Boss Orange , Calvin Klein, Custo Barcelona, Adidas, Uneven, Fred Perry, Miss Sixty, Guess and Gant.

The old airport Tempelhof, the historic site chosen for the event, received this year a record of visitors from more than one hundred countries, in what is the second edition after the return to the German capital.

The common thread of colections shown were clear lines, the soft colors and strong design options. The denim trends are moving toward the defined lines. Gone are the embossed patterns. They were replaced by the quality of fabrics, especially with regard to accessories: the customers and buyers want to see the value of money they spend. Epiphytes, the organic future of interior design

epiphyten8

The :: dan pearlman creative agency, based in Berlin, breeds a future generation of interior design with the green and polymorphic Epiphytes.“Epiphyte is a plant that normally grows on another plant for support. It is not parasitic, but uses the host plant for support only. Epiphytes can be found in many different environments all over the world, but many of the most beautiful come from the tropic rain forests”.

As they, these are not fixed pieces of furniture, but hybrid units of polygonal shape and organic evolution. They clamber across tables, entwine around the walls or arrange themselves on the ceiling. Sometimes big, sometimes small, they can make noises, are able to glow or make themselves useful in other ways.

“Our objects are like morphings derived from the fields of manufacturing, furnishing and biology”, says Nicole Srock.Stanley, foundress and managing director of :: dan pearlman.
