Berlin bombed with 100,000 poems

On Tuesday, August 28, the Chilean arts collective Los Casagrande dropped 100,000 poems from the sky onto the Lustgarten in Berlin to celebrate poetry and condemn acts of war. The action was their contribution to one of Berlin’s most popular cultural events, A Long Night of Museums. | via

Farbattacke (Color attack!) on Rosenthaler Platz, Berlin

On Sunday, 25 April, there was a “Farbattacke” at Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin. “At each of the four junction sites has been drained over the pedestrian crossing color, bright red, yellow, blue and purple, the rest have done bikes, cars and pedestrians,” says “mg” at Just.
Maybe Guerilla marketing? This is indicated a) “Some” suspicious “looking onlookers with larger cameras,” b) the choice of location (from the window of your favorite cafes in the digital Bhoème St. Oberholz can see the intersection and blogging the event almost live), c) fact that “only” indelible paint was used, d) there was no outing of an artist, and e) the similar campaigns by Sony (Bravia) and BMW. Let’s see who’s really behind it …

Educated at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee and groomed in the offices of Givenchy and Yurkevich, Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad ( PERRET SCHAAD) has brought refreshing elegance back into Haute couture. This is not a showcase of frills and thrills. Recently exhibited at RENDEZ-VOUS Femme Showroom in Paris, PERRET SCHAAD was a respite from French flamboyance.
HIGHLINE AT 23RD – Jon Kleinhample

Exploding Plastic Inevitable - Highline at 23rd
Operating out of a PrenzlauerBerg Altbau, Berlin based architect and designer Jon Kleinhample is not just another design upstart. His starkly white homepage masks a series of independent and professional work with a broad range. The design project Exploding Plastic Inevitable is an exploration into the agglomeration of cellular structured spaces. Rejecting the popular trend of script-generated geometry, Kleinhample manually controls and models each piece of his designs. Despite the evident rigor, Kleinhample’s graphics are never without humor and Exploding Plastic Inevitable in particular is tinged with a hat tip to black and white film.

Epiphytes, the organic future of interior design
The :: dan pearlman creative agency, based in Berlin, breeds a future generation of interior design with the green and polymorphic Epiphytes.“Epiphyte is a plant that normally grows on another plant for support. It is not parasitic, but uses the host plant for support only. Epiphytes can be found in many different environments all over the world, but many of the most beautiful come from the tropic rain forests”.
As they, these are not fixed pieces of furniture, but hybrid units of polygonal shape and organic evolution. They clamber across tables, entwine around the walls or arrange themselves on the ceiling. Sometimes big, sometimes small, they can make noises, are able to glow or make themselves useful in other ways.
“Our objects are like morphings derived from the fields of manufacturing, furnishing and biology”, says Nicole Srock.Stanley, foundress and managing director of :: dan pearlman.

Illustrative 2009
Paris, Zurich and now Berlin: ILLUSTRATIVE 2009 will return to the creative capital to celebrate the cutting-edge works of contemporary graphic art for the fifth time around. From the 15th of October to the 1st of November, works ranging from drawing, graphic prints, painting and monumental mural collages to graphically inspired 3D-illustrations, book art and animation will be on show. With more than 60 artists from all across the world, ILLUSTRATIVE brings together an inspiring cornucopia of visual contemporary culture in the Villa Elisabeth located in the heart of Berlin.
ILLUSTRATIVE showcases an international scene of artist-designers, whose works have been inspired by subculture movements like comic and graffiti as well as by applied arts like illustration and book art. The exhibition explores the merging of infinite materials and techniques in widely unprecedented combinations, which challenge learned ways of seeing – e.g. the latest development, where illustration and graphics are translated into the third dimension, or new narrative strategies in 3D-animation.
Pictoplasma Berlin 2009

- friends with you bouncy house
hello new friends..
Just got back from the 3rd Pictoplasma conference in Berlin. What a busy booze-filled week it was. I had a great time reconnecting with old friends… and making new ones with some great people.
Onto the conference…
Quite honestly, I didn’t feel it was as strong as the 2nd one in 2006. The speakers weren’t as strong or engaging, and the whole vibe seemed a bit weird. For as professional as they made this one seem with the new venue, etc… the whole thing seemed a bit half-assed… from the character walk on through to the closing party.
So the character walk… shows I found interesting were: Cecilie Ellefsen ,Juan Pablo Cambariere, Nina Braun, Gediminas Šiauly, and JOUMI Art & Design. The walk was to start Tuesday morning, many of the other galleries hadn’t even set up the shows by mid afternoon, so that was quite a disappointment, as the walk was much more spread out than the previous years, so a long trek away from the center often proved to be fruitless.
