Walking around the city is simply awesome and the capital show off all her nostalgic magnificence even in a gray Sunday. Everywhere statues of saints, richly decorated bridges, imperial ruins contribute to that sense of grandiosity that still impress us with a bit of fear. Amongst all these historical beauties, close to the Colosseum pops up, Rione Monti.
A multitude of cobbled lively streets stretches up mixing new tiny boutiques and local activities in a picturesque postcard, where ivy leaves hang from the walls and young people stroll around. Here some culinary-tips to enjoy Rione Monti at its best:
For lunch:
I was immediately attracted by Zia Rosetta, possibly the smallest place on earth, specialized in “Rosette” the typical rose shaped bread filled with the beast Italian ingredients, all coming from Campania and Lazio. The result is a traditional sandwich with the most innovative and healthy ingredients. Yum! Try the mini rosette to taste as much as you can with a glass of a great wine.
Where? Via Urbana,54
For dinner:
Head to the classic Hostaria la Carbonara and pay homage to the traditional Roman style with artichokes alla giudia, a huge plate of Carbonara or Gricia, Scaloppine alla Romana perfect to combine with some with red wine.
Where? Via Panispera, 54
Shopping treasure:
If you’re always looking for ultimate bargain designer piece, something unusual and edgy, you definitely have to browse through Rione Monti Market stalls for the right dose of Sunday creativity. Vintage, young local artists and collectors meet in a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. Don’t miss out!
Where? Via Leonina, 46
