Se i nomi Charles e Rebecca vi rimandano subito alla città di Sheffield e a sonorità genuinamente folk con punte indie, allora avrete capito che questa volta il nostro mixtape è stato scelto dagli Slow Club.
Breve introduzione: Charles e Rebecca si incontrano in una band chiamata the Lonely Heart, la quale poi si scioglie nel 2006. Di lì, i due prendendo ispirazione dal film Blue Velvet di Lynch, formano gli Slow Club.
Il loro primo lavoro esce nel 2009 con il titolo Yeah So, il quale richiama un po’ il modo di questi due personaggi, così diversi ma così inglesi. Ben 15 tracce squisitamente folk. Si perché contrariamente al Brit rock, gli Slow Club hanno scelto una via un po’ retrò per farsi conoscere: solo batteria e chitarra e le due voci, insomma meno Ego musicale in favore di armonie dal gusto puro e con beat dati da bicchieri o sedie. E’ così che pezzi come Me and You, Apples and Pairs, Giving Up on your Love ci riportano quasi ad un’atmosfera bucolica e genuina, con voci parallele ma che, a volte, si incontrano.
Dopo questa prima realizzazione, i due si trasferiscono da Sheffield in una nuova città, iniziano a sentire nuovi gruppi musicali (tra le quali confessa Sonny and The Sunsets) e alla fine di quest’anno partoriscono la loro ultima creazione Paradise. Siamo di fronte a un piccolo cambiamento di tendenza, la base del loro sound è sempre folk ma con contaminazioni di synth, anche Charles nelle sue brevi risposte, lo conferma. Anzi a dirla tutta ammette che per quest’album hanno studiato il modo da rendere i loro live quanto più divertenti possibili. Tra le tracce del loro secondo lavoro, spiccano tra le loro canzoni, Two Cousins, interessante video in bianco e nero, Where I Am Waking, con Rebecca e Charles superchiccosi. Anche se, Charles ammette che al momento il pezzo che preferisce di più è Beginners.
Insomma sicuramente da ascoltare e da vedere presto in Italia, si spera.

Brief introduction: Charles and Rebecca met in a band called The Lonely Heart, which then split up in 2006. Taking inspiration from the movie Blue Velvet by Lynch, Rebecca and Charles formed the Slow Club.
Their first album Yeah So was released in 2009: 15 tracks purely folk. Yes, unlikely the Brit rock, they have chosen a slightly ‘retro’ way to got to know: only drums and guitar and two voices, less ego in favour of folk harmonies. Songs like Me and You, Apples and Pairs, Giving Up On Your Love, bring us back almost to a friendly atmosphere and genuine. After their first record, they move from Sheffield to a new city, start to listen to new bands (including Sonny & The Sunsets confesses Charles) and at the end of this year give birth to their latest creation Paradise. Facing a small change in the trend, the base of their sound is always folk but with contamination of synth, even Charles in his brief answers, confirms it. Indeed he continues to say that this album was studied in order to make their live as much fun as possible. Tracks which stand out are, Two Cousins, interesting black and white video, Where I Am Waking, with supercool Rebecca and Charles. Although, Charles admits that his fav is Beginners.
