This poster represents a snapshot of (mostly) immediately recognizable guitar icons, and not necessarily great guitarists. Hence no Uli Jon Roth or Michael Schenker. (Or for that matter, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Pettrucci or Eric Johnson.) Truly great guitarists don’t reach a level of pop-cultural penetration to get recognized in a crowd, sadly. Likewise, guys who were not great guitarists (Johnny Ramone, Kurt Cobain, etc.) are often guitar icons nonetheless.
