Berlin bombed with 100,000 poems
On Tuesday, August 28, the Chilean arts collective Los Casagrande dropped 100,000 poems from the sky onto the Lustgarten in Berlin to celebrate poetry and condemn acts of war. The action was their contribution to one of Berlin’s most popular cultural events, A Long Night of Museums. | via
Propellerhead Creates Worlds Largest Drum Machine
Propellerhead recently decided to create a giant, 4×4 light-emitting device so large that you have to literally jump between each of the pads in order to trigger the drum samples. Then they just randomly set up shop outdoors somewhere and hooked everything up to a projector showing the Kong drum synthesizer that it was hooked up to, and hundreds of people just stood there in awe.
Kong is a new instrument added in Reason 5, which by the way, has benn launched on 25th of August. It is a $129 upgrade if you currently own ANY previous version of the program, $349 if you are buying it for the first time, and $449 in combination with Record, which is also getting an update tomorrow. A day @ Freitag Headquarters
On late July I have been invited ( as Polkadot boss 
) with just a few handpicked European bloggers in the wonderful Zurich to visit the FREITAG headquarters including cutting our very own iPad sleeves and enjoying a night out with the FREITAG crew. It was an amazing experience, the guys @ Freitag are really super and we also had a chance to have a talk with Markus Freitag (one of the founders of the company). We will post the interview in the next few days.
For the few who should not know the brand, FREITAG has been manufacturing bags and accessories for women and men since 1993. Their materials are used, having seen service on the road. They are well-travelled truck tarpaulins, unraveled seat belts, bicycle inner tubes beyond repair and recycled airbags. Tough stuff – which makes their products tough, too. The swiss company apply their recycled materials in a totally new way, insisting on superlative design and functionality. Every FREITAG product is made from original tarpaulins of different colors, markings and contours. So every FREITAG product is a one-off.
Freitag have just launched their beautiful iPad sleeves, complete with a ‘one-pull’ strap system for easy access, a ‘velvety’ inner lining, and their iconic recycled tarpaulin outers. We have been able to cut some pieces, and once they will be sewn together and will get our desk, we will give them for free to our readers, so stay tuned.

Arcade Fire: a special gig on Youtube
In order to promote their new album “The Suburbs” (available from yesterday), Arcade fire are going to play for a special gig at Madison Square Garden of New York, tuesday 5th of August. All the fan around the world will have the opportunity to be there virtually thanks to a live steaming on YouTube! But it’s not enough, a special guest has been invited to direct the gig: the famous and creative director Terry Gilliam (The imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Fear and loathing in Las Vegas). Polkadotters @ Sziget Festival
I nostri coetanei del 1969 corsero a Woodstock spinti da un senso di libertà e ribellione, e con la voglia di esprimersi ballando sulle note del rock’n'roll. Non immaginavano lontanamente quello che avrebbero trovato, la leggenda e la filmografia moderna narrano che fu un tam tam nato dal passaparola e un movimento completamente spontaneo e inaspettato. Si ritrovarono in tanti, tantissimi e con una line up memorabile. Noi del 2010 abbiamo perso la magia dell’incognito ma non la voglia di musica, come dimostrano piccoli e grandi festival che animano le diverse località europee durante la stagione estiva. Nei mesi scorsi c’è stato un passaparola ma di indiscrezioni e rivelazioni sulle diverse line up e alla fine ognuno ha avuto la sua. Noi di Polkadot ce ne andiamo allo Sziget Festival, a scoprire se davvero lì c’è ancora lo spirito di Woodstock che aleggia nell’aria. Ce ne andiamo via da Facebook e dal traffico della città ormai insopportabile. Ce ne andiamo lì dov’è più azzurro il fiume, sulle rive del Danubio, dal 9 al 16 agosto. Finalmente la tendenza degli ultimi anni sembra quella di voler riunire diversi generi e diverse persone in un unico evento , dopo un periodo di separazione netta dove un metallaro, un hypster e un rastone amante del raggae non avrebbero mai convissuto nello stesso posto, ma chi l’aveva stabilito? Ecco, noi ce ne andiamo lontani da certe convenzioni snob (che non abbiamo mai digerito) con un solo obiettivo: una full immersion di buona musica. Partiamo con la voglia di scoprire e sperimentare, abbandonando ogni remora e rievocando lo spirito più hippies sopito dalla vita di città: tenda e zaino in spalla. Di seguito ricordiamo la line up per chi partirà last minute. Per tutti gli altri… vi terremo aggiornati dall’isola di Obuda!

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image explores the creative genius of Tim Burton in an eponymous exhibition. From Edward Scissorhands to Alice in Wonderland, through Sleepy Hollow, the entire filmography of American film is reviewed.
To promote the exhibition event, the agency DDB Melbourne has been wandering the Headless Horseman on a carriage. An interesting idea takes the universe and who promoted the exhibition provides a use-value as the free carriage connects the center of Melbourne instead of the exhibition. | Via
Ridley Scott + YouTube + Kevin Macdonald
Il 24 luglio partirà un bizzarro ed ambizioso progetto cinematografico al quale potranno partecipare tutti i possessori di un account su Youtube e di una videocamera. LaScott Free (casa di produzione di Ridley Scott), il regista Kevin Macdonald e il colosso di Internet uniranno le loro forze per dar vita a Life In A Day, “il primo lungometraggio creato dagli utenti”.

“Life In A Day è uno storico esperimento globale per creare un lungometraggio mondiale diretto dagli utenti: un documentario, girato in un singolo giorno, da te. Il 24 luglio avrai a disposizione 24 ore per catturare un assaggio della tua vita con una videocamera. I video più avvincenti ed irresistibili verranno inseriti nel documentario sperimentale, prodotto da Ridley Scott e diretto da Kevin Macdonald“.
Lucky Cats @ The Brandery Barcelona
Il Maneki-neko è il famoso gatto della fortuna giapponese che, con la zampa alzata, saluta o sembra richiamare verso di se. La zampa in questione puo essere sia la destra che la sinistra: la destra alzata è un augurio di buona salute e fortuna, mentre la sinistra attira clienti, per questo il gatto viene spesso posto in negozi o attività commerciali.
Personalmente, mi è capitato svariate volte di vedere il Maneki-neko nei negozi, soprattutto di abbigliamento, di Barcellona e, proprio durante la Fiera di moda di Barcellona, The Brandery Revolution, conclusasi ieri, si è svolta una mostra di Maneki-neko.
Lauro Samblas e Txemi sono due amici che hanno raccolto un gruppo di ventisei persone, tra artisti, pittori, fotografi, illustratori e tatuatori, e, sotto il nome di Misi Misi, hanno realizzato piu di trenta originali e fantasiosi Maneki-neko.
Misi Misi vuole essere una riflessione sul momento difficile che stiamo attraversando, la situazione economica globale che gira le spalle agli artisti e non solo a loro: “lucky cats for a shitty moment” è il messaggio dell’esposizione.
Quella dei lucky cats è una mostra itinerante: dopo Barcellona continuerà a girare per le principali città spagnole.
Volta Strada – world launch in Berlin
During next Berlin fashion week, Volta Footwear will run a pop-up store in the central area of Mitte. The temporary location will feature the launch of Volta Footwear new design;it is called STRADA and it is a cross-training model developed in collaboration with Vibram.
The opening act will be held on wednesday the 7th, from 6 p.m. to midnight. A special dj’s line-up will spin records during the whole event (names TBC). From the 8th to the end of July the pop-up store will be opened for all customers, featuring a window of the new SS2001 collection and the sales of Winter Boots.

Una due giorni di concerti live e dj set, completamente gratuiti, che raccoglie ogni anno oltre 10.000 giovani da tutta Italia, pronti a ballare e cantare per ore circondati dal sole e dal mare pugliese.
